When Katharine “Kiki” Delgado Conrad loses her husband unexpectedly, dark secrets are revealed in the wake of the man’s death. Wanting a fresh start away from bad memories, Kiki returns to her hometown of Pasadena, California and purchases an older home in need of restoration. Her cousin, Julie Delgado, works for The Rose Chalet wedding venue and Kiki has aspirations of turning the old grand dame of a home into her own wedding venue.
But plans don’t go as she had hoped. The house needs far more restoration than she was led to believe and when hot, hunky construction estimator Trace Rocklin of Rocklin Construction delivers the bad news, Kiki fears that her dreams for a new life are dashed. Little does she know that her new life is about to begin… just not in a way she had imagined.
Trace feels sorry for the beautiful woman who is overwhelmed by the old house. A Pasadena native, he has only recently returned home to start a new life himself. While Kiki thinks she’s falling for a nice, normal guy, the truth is that she has no idea of Trace’s past – for twenty years, Trace was a CIA operative that enemy and ally alike called the “Eliminator”. If there was a dirty job, Trace would do it. But after his best friend was killed in the line of duty, Trace gave it all up to return home to work for his father’s construction company. He could no longer face the high risk of his profession and wanted a more simple life.
But there are those after Trace who won’t let him live quietly. As he and Kiki fall hard for each other, bonding over the restoration of her old house, Trace is called back to duty one last time. It’s either kill or be killed for Trace and he has no choice but to fight back. Upon learning of his espionage past, Kiki has to make the choice to stand with him in his final showdown… or not.
