Recommendations
When I meet people for the first time and they find out what I do, their first question is always “what novel do you recommend I read?!!” That’s not an easy question. It’s like asking me which one of my kids I like better. I like them all! (or, love them all as the case may be).
First, I ask the prospective reader what kind of books they like to read… adventure? Historical? Contemporary? If it’s historical, I will recommend Unending Love or Lespada. That’s because they’re ‘shorter’ books than my others. Did you know that Unending Love is actually my ‘shortest’ book at 97,000 words? If you like those, then you can ease into the longer ones – The Gorgon, Great Protector, etc., etc. Then, once the reader is totally under my spell (insert evil laugh here), they can move on to the mega-epics of The Wolfe, Rise of the Defender, and The Dark One: Dark Knight. Word count of the mega epics – 300,000 EACH (that’s enough for three regular-sized novels!!).
So, today, I will recommend a good book for you to read – Unending Love. If you haven’t read it already, you need to. It’s a really good book.
If I was to recommend ANOTHER author’s work? I do so happily, because there are enough readers to go around. Yes! I have no problem recommending another’s work! So who would I recommend? One of my favorites – Ray Bradbury. Read The Martian Chronicles. It’s Sci-Fi beyond the genre. It’s life and love and imagination like nobody has anymore. Ray was one of a kind. I don’t even write in that genre, mostly because I couldn’t do anything to compare to Mr. Bradbury. I’m happy where I am, and thankful that writers like Ray Bradbury gave me the love of reading – and writing.
Happy reading!!
